How to Infuse Cooking with Intention & Magic.

Updated: Apr 6

Your Kitchen is a Sacred Space

Some of you may know I'm a professional chef. I started my chef apprenticeship at just 20 years old, and my career has taken me from Australia to the UK and back again. Now, I’m a catering manager at a site in Hobart, where I cook every day ~ plus, I’m a mum to two always-hungry teenage boys!

Cooking has always come naturally to me. Combining flavours and textures feels like second nature, and I rarely follow recipes (however, I've included some below to get you started) ~ relying instead on intuition to guide me. For a long time, I saw my cooking and my shamanic work as separate, but I’ve realised they are indeed connected. Now, I infuse my food with intention and magic, drawing upon the rich traditions of kitchen folklore.

In ancient times, the hearth was the heart of the home—a place of warmth, nourishment, and magic. Today, we can reclaim that sacred connection by cooking with mindfulness, gratitude, and energy. Whether you see yourself as a kitchen witch or simply someone who loves to cook with heart, your kitchen can become a sacred space for nourishment and magic.

Here’s how you can infuse magic into your cooking every day…

Setting the Energy of Your Kitchen

Before you begin cooking, take a moment to cleanse and bless your kitchen space.

  • Smudging or Smoke Cleansing – Use white sage, rosemary, or palo santo to clear stagnant energy.

  • Sound Cleansing – Ring a bell or play singing bowls to shift the vibration.

  • Crystal Placement – Keep black tourmaline for protection, citrine for abundance, and clear quartz for purification.

Cooking with Intention: The Art of Energy Infusion

Every ingredient carries its own vibration, and how we handle food influences the energy it holds. Try these simple practices:

  • Speak or Sing Affirmations Over Your Food – Whisper words of love, healing, or abundance as you stir.

  • Stirring Directions Matter – Stir clockwise to invite positive energy (love, prosperity) and counterclockwise to release negativity or illness.

  • Hand Placement & Reiki Energy – Place your hands over your food and visualise white light filling it with divine energy.

The Magic of Ingredients: Herbs, Spices & Their Energies

Here are some common kitchen staples and their spiritual properties:

  • Cinnamon – Attracts prosperity and protection.

  • Rosemary – Enhances memory, purification, and clarity.

  • Basil – Invites love and abundance.

  • Garlic – Wards off negativity and enhances strength.

  • Honey – Sweetens relationships and attracts love.

  • Lemon – Cleanses and uplifts the spirit.
