Reconnecting with Nature and the More-Than-Human World.

Updated: Mar 15

"Rewild yourself. Return to the forest, to the rivers, to the mountains. Breathe deeply, walk barefoot, and remember your roots."

Reclaiming Power Through Connection to Nature

In our modern world, so many of us feel a deep sense of disconnection, not only from ourselves but from the natural world that surrounds us. This disconnection, often referred to as Power-loss, happens when we sever our relationship with the Earth and the energy that flows between all living beings, both human and more-than-human. Unlike Soul-loss, which stems from personal trauma or emotional wounds, Power-loss originates in our estrangement from the web of life itself.

This separation is deeply rooted in how we interact with the Earth. In much of human history, agriculture and land management practices have been dominated by a mindset of ownership and control. This perspective sees the land as something to exploit, rather than something we belong to.

This attitude disrupts ecosystems and severs our spiritual and energetic ties to the land. When we lose this connection, we also lose the power, balance, and sense of belonging that come with it. Healing Power-loss requires us to restore this relationship with the Earth and reawaken our place within the natural world.

Understanding Power-loss

Power-loss can manifest as feelings of disempowerment, emptiness, or a lack of direction. It’s a symptom of being unplugged from the interconnected energy grid that unites all life. While spending time in nature may provide relief, true healing involves rekindling a deeper, reciprocal bond with the living world.

This process asks us to look beyond nature as something we observe and instead engage with it as a vibrant, intelligent community of beings. From this perspective, plants, animals, rivers, and even the land itself have their own voices and wisdom, and our role is to listen and connect.

Pathways to Reconnection

Rebuilding this connection with the Earth isn’t about returning to a romanticised version of the past; it’s about forging new, meaningful relationships in the present. Here are some approaches to healing Power-loss:

1. Spend Time in Nature Intentionally

Spending time outdoors offers a powerful antidote to feelings of disconnection, but true healing requires intention. Observe the intricate patterns of life—how a tree grows, how the wind moves through the grass, or how animals interact in their environment. This mindful presence opens the door to a more profound connection.

2. Explore Shamanic Practices

Shamanic journeying allows one to explore the unseen realms of nature and energy. This ancient practice helps peel back the layers of disconnection created by modern life and allows us to interact with the spiritual aspects of the Earth.

3. Reconnect with Power Animals

In many traditions, connecting with a Power Animal is an important step in restoring balance. These spiritual allies act as guides and protectors, helping us to reclaim our lost sense of purpose and connection to the natural world.

4. Communicate with the Land

Building a relationship with the natural world involves more than simply being in it. Engage in active dialogue with the spirits of the land, the animals, and the plants. Pay attention to what they might be communicating to you, and consider how you can honour their presence in return.

A Lifelong Practice

Healing Power-loss isn’t an instant fix; it’s a practice that unfolds over a lifetime. It asks us to show up daily in a way that respects the interconnectedness of all life. Building this relationship with the Earth and its inhabitants is about more than individual healing—it’s a step towards restoring balance to the wider web of life.

A New Approach for a New Era

Shamanic and animist practices have been part of human life for thousands of years, but our modern challenges require new ways of applying them. Today, shamanism is evolving to meet contemporary needs, offering practical tools that can help us navigate a world that has grown increasingly disconnected from its roots.

By integrating these practices with the insights of psychology and modern spirituality, we can address not only Power-loss but also the emotional and societal barriers that prevent us from reconnecting with the Earth. This combination offers a pathway back to empowerment, balance, and belonging.

Moving Forward

Reclaiming our connection to the natural world is not only a personal journey but also a necessary step for the collective well-being of our planet. By deepening our relationship with the Earth, we can rediscover the sense of wholeness that comes from being part of something greater.

The journey to heal Power-loss is an invitation to realign with the rhythms of the natural world and to embrace the energy, wisdom, and connection that have always been available to us. Through intention, practice, and respect, we can begin to repair the bonds that sustain us all.
